Praia D’El Rey
Golf & Beachfront Luxury
We’d heard plenty about Portugal’s Silver Coast, but nothing really prepared us for just how striking Praia D’El Rey is. The Marriott resort sits right on the edge of the Atlantic, with dramatic ocean views, direct beach access, and two of Europe’s most exciting golf courses just minutes away. It’s the perfect mix of seaside escape and championship golf.
Arrival & First Impressions
Driving into the resort feels relaxed yet impressive—you’re surrounded by pine forests before it opens up to reveal the hotel sitting right above the coastline. The lobby is bright and airy, with huge windows looking straight out over the ocean. You immediately get that feeling of space and fresh Atlantic air.
Rooms
We stayed in an Ocean View Room, and it’s worth it for the view alone. Waking up to the sound of the waves and stepping out onto the balcony was a highlight in itself. The rooms are modern and comfortable, with plenty of natural light and thoughtful touches like Nespresso coffee machines and spacious bathrooms with soaking tubs.
Golf
This is one of the big reasons you come to Praia D’El Rey—the golf is outstanding.
-
Praia D’El Rey Golf Course (18 holes, par 73) is a mix of parkland and links-style holes with fairways framed by pines before opening up to some spectacular seaside holes. It’s scenic but also a proper challenge when the wind picks up.
-
West Cliffs Golf Links (18 holes, par 72) is just 5 minutes away and easily one of the most beautiful courses we’ve played. It’s pure links, carved through natural dunes with sweeping ocean views on almost every hole.
We also took a short transfer to Royal Óbidos, another excellent option nearby. The Golf Concierge at the hotel arranged all the tee times, transfers, and even post-round storage, so everything was seamless.
Spa & Wellness
After a windy day on the links, the resort spa was exactly what we needed. It has an indoor heated pool, sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms offering massages, facials, and body therapies. We booked a hot stone massage which was perfect for tired muscles. There’s also a well-equipped gym if you want to keep your fitness routine going.
Dining
The resort has several dining options that make it easy to mix things up:
-
Tempera is the main restaurant with a big breakfast buffet and themed dinners with live cooking stations.
-
Emprata offers a more refined experience, focusing on fresh Portuguese ingredients and modern plating.
-
Atlantico Grill is great for casual lunches with fresh fish and grilled dishes.
-
The Lobby Bar and Oceano Sports Bar are perfect for evening drinks or a relaxed bite after golf.
-
Everything felt fresh and local—lots of seafood, great wines, and that easy coastal vibe.
The Overall Stay
Praia D’El Rey feels like a complete golf and beach resort. You can have a day of serious links golf at West Cliffs, come back for a spa treatment, then watch the sunset over the Atlantic with a glass of wine. It works just as well for couples, golf groups, or anyone who just wants a more peaceful coastal escape away from the busier Algarve resorts.
If you’re looking for world-class golf with an authentic Atlantic backdrop, this is the place.
