Why Morocco for Your Golf & Spa Holiday
Morocco punches well above its weight as a golf and spa destination. The courses — designed by Colin Montgomerie, Gary Player and other major architects — are genuinely exceptional, built in a landscape that has no European equivalent. The spas are something else entirely. The hammam tradition is embedded in Moroccan culture: steam, exfoliation, rhassoul clay, argan oil treatments — a form of spa experience that's deeply restorative and completely different from what you'd find in Portugal or Spain. Royal Mansour's three-floor subterranean spa is arguably the finest hotel spa in Africa.
The contrast between extraordinary luxury and the raw energy of the medina five minutes from the gates is what makes Morocco unique. A morning round, an afternoon in the hammam, and an evening in the souks of Marrakech — there's no other golf and spa destination that gives you that range of experience in a single day.

Where to Go in Morocco
Marrakech — The most popular base, and the one with the greatest concentration of exceptional properties. Royal Mansour is one of the great hotels of the world — a private medina of riads with a subterranean spa that spans three floors, offering hammam rituals, body treatments and a level of service that's hard to match anywhere. Tikida Golf Palace sits adjacent to the Amelkis Golf Club for a more golf-focused stay. Les Jardins de la Koutoubia puts you in the heart of the medina with a traditional hammam spa steps from the Jemaa el-Fna.
Atlantic Coast — Mazagan — The Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort sits on the Atlantic coast between Casablanca and Agadir. The Gary Player-designed course runs along the ocean, and the resort has one of the largest spas in Africa — thalassotherapy pools, hammam facilities and a full treatment menu. A purer resort experience than Marrakech, with the Atlantic as the backdrop.
Middle Atlas — Michlifen — For something completely different: Michlifen Ifrane is a mountain resort at 1,650 metres, surrounded by cedar forests in the Middle Atlas. Cool air, pine trees, a landscape that feels a world away from Marrakech — and a treehouse spa that is one of the most unusual and atmospheric in the country.
Frequently Asked Questions
- When is the best time for a golf and spa holiday in Morocco?
- October to April is the sweet spot. Marrakech and the Atlantic coast enjoy mild temperatures (18–26°C) and low rainfall through these months — ideal for golf in the morning and hammam or spa time in the afternoon. March and April are particularly good. Summer in Marrakech can exceed 40°C and is generally not recommended for golf.
- How far is Morocco from the UK?
- Marrakech is around 3.5 hours from London, Birmingham and Manchester. Casablanca is slightly longer at 4 hours. Direct flights operate from multiple UK airports year-round, making Morocco one of the most accessible non-European golf and spa destinations available.
- What makes Moroccan spas different?
- The hammam tradition is central to Moroccan culture and unlike anything you'll find in a European hotel spa. A traditional hammam involves a steam room, exfoliation with a kessa glove, and a rhassoul clay mask — deeply restorative and completely different in feel from a standard massage or treatment. Several of our Moroccan resorts have hammam facilities of genuine quality, including Royal Mansour's three-floor subterranean spa.
- What standard are the golf courses in Morocco?
- The top courses are genuinely world-class. The Montgomerie Marrakech at Royal Palm was designed by Colin Montgomerie and regularly appears in African top-10 rankings. The courses at Mazagan on the Atlantic coast were designed by Gary Player. Royal Golf Club Marrakech is one of Africa's oldest and most characterful courses.
- Do I need a visa for Morocco?
- British and Irish passport holders do not require a visa for Morocco for stays up to 90 days. We'd recommend checking the latest FCDO travel advice before you travel for any updates around entry requirements.
