Canary Islands

Why the Canary Islands for Your Golf & Spa Holiday

The Canary Islands exist in a permanent mild summer. The Atlantic trade winds moderate the heat, the sea stays warm year-round and rainfall is rare in the southern resorts. For golfers and spa guests alike, this means genuinely comfortable conditions in every month — 20°C and sunny in January, warm but not oppressive in August. It's the consistency that makes the Canaries different from mainland Spain or Portugal, and it's why they're the default choice for UK travellers who want warmth without a long-haul flight.

The spa facilities at both our Canary Islands resorts are properly equipped — not afterthoughts. Salobre's Be Aloe Wellness spa and the Sheraton Fuerteventura's thalassotherapy offering give guests a full alternative to the course, and the volcanic landscape, dramatic coastline and local culture provide everything else in between. A week here works equally well for guests who want to play every day and for those who want two or three rounds alongside serious time at the spa and on the beach.

Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura & Tenerife

Salobre Hotel Resort & Serenity, Gran Canaria — Set in the hills above Maspalomas in the south of Gran Canaria, Salobre is built around two championship courses — the Old Course and the New Course — with the Atlantic and the Maspalomas dunes as the backdrop. The Be Aloe Wellness spa is a serious facility: hydrotherapy pool, extensive treatment rooms and a menu that covers post-round recovery as well as pure relaxation. A PGA golf academy is on site for those who want to work on their game alongside the holiday.

Sheraton Fuerteventura Beach, Golf & Spa Resort — Fuerteventura has a quieter, more unhurried quality than Gran Canaria. The Sheraton sits directly on the beach at Caleta de Fuste with calm, shallow water ideal for swimming at any time of year. The spa is a large, well-equipped facility with thalassotherapy pools that make the most of the Atlantic setting — salt water treatments, seaweed wraps and a full body treatment menu. Fuerteventura Golf Club is minutes away.

Tenerife — The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife combines volcanic mountain scenery with some of the archipelago's most dramatic coastline. Golf courses here range from coastal layouts to elevated inland designs with views of Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak. Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time for a golf and spa holiday in the Canary Islands?
Year-round, genuinely. The Canaries sit at 28° north latitude and the Atlantic trade winds keep temperatures comfortable in every season. Winter (November to March) is the most popular window for UK golfers — daytime temperatures of 20–24°C and blue skies are typical even in January, while courses at home are at their worst. Summer is warm rather than hot, making morning golf and afternoon spa time a natural rhythm throughout the year.
Which island is best — Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura or Tenerife?
They suit different preferences. Gran Canaria (Salobre Hotel) has two championship courses on dramatic volcanic terrain in the south of the island, with a dedicated spa and health club and a more resort-focused experience. Fuerteventura (Sheraton) is more relaxed — it's right on the beach with calm, shallow water, extensive spa facilities and a quieter pace that suits those who want the golf-to-relaxation balance tilted towards relaxation. Tenerife is the most varied of the three: more dramatic scenery, a wider range of courses and a livelier broader tourism scene. We can arrange Tenerife itineraries on request.
How long is the flight from the UK?
Approximately 4 hours from London and most major UK regional airports. Direct flights operate year-round from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Bristol and others, making the Canaries one of the most accessible year-round warm-weather golf and spa destinations from the UK.
What spa facilities are available?
Both resorts have full spa facilities. Salobre Hotel's Be Aloe Wellness spa offers a comprehensive treatment menu alongside a hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam rooms — ideal for post-round recovery or a full spa day. The Sheraton Fuerteventura has a large spa overlooking the beach with a wide range of treatments and a thalassotherapy pool that makes the most of the Atlantic setting.
Can non-golfers enjoy a Canary Islands golf and spa holiday?
Very much so. Both resorts are designed to work as complete holiday destinations, not just for golfers. The Sheraton's beachfront location particularly suits non-golfers — spa, pools, water sports and the beach fill the day naturally. The islands also offer volcanic landscapes, local markets and excursions to explore between spa sessions and rounds.
