Vale do Lobo is Portugal's first luxury resort, established in 1962 and set across 450 hectares of pine-shaded parkland above two kilometres of golden Algarve coastline. Golf is built around two 18-hole championship courses: the Ocean, whose original layout by Sir Henry Cotton combines two of the resort's founding nine-hole courses, its par-3 15th running along the beach; and the Royal, one of Portugal's most prestigious courses, home to the cliff-top 16th, one of the most photographed holes in Europe. The Royal Spa offers eight treatment rooms and two garden bungalows for facial, body and holistic therapies built around sea algae, organic plant extracts and locally harvested salt. Guests stay in Standard 1 and 2 Bedroom Apartments — self-catering units set within the resort's landscaped grounds — with five on-site restaurants and bars, a private beach club, and one of Portugal's largest tennis and padel complexes, 19 courts in total, all within the estate.
